
Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
Our clinical consultants in coordination with our Chief Antimicrobial Stewardship Officer can provide comprehensive antimicrobial stewardship reports and information monthly for your staff utilizing the CDC core elements for the development of an effective Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP). We monitor all antimicrobial orders for correct dose, appropriate diagnosis, and a discontinuation date on a daily, weekly, monthly basis depending on the order(s).

Consultant Pharmacist Duties
- Work with the antimicrobial stewardship team to educate staff on the institution’s programs.
- Request reasons for antibiotic use on all physician orders.
- Review new antibiotic prescriptions to ensure they are appropriate.
- Share guidelines on switching from IV to oral antibiotics and therapy duration with nursing staff.
- Improve clinical outcomes while reducing unintended consequences of antibiotic use.
- Set up lab testing protocols to monitor for side effects and drug interactions.
- Review microbiology results and advise prescribers on the best antibiotic choice.
- Implement measures to improve patient care, reduce resistance and costs, and extend the effectiveness of antibiotics.
- Regularly review the yearly antibiogram and update therapy recommendations based on resistance patterns.
